A Book Launch & Talk with Author Richard Becker

Sponsored by Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO)

April 9 MAWO Forum Report

On Friday April 9th, Mobilization Against War & Occupation (MAWO) sponsored a book launch in Vancouver of author and antiwar activist in the US, Richard Becker and his recently published book “Palestine, Israel and the U.S. Empire.” This book launch in Vancouver was important as it was the only stop for Richard Becker in all of Canada in his North American book tour.

Janine Solanki, MAWO executive committee member welcomed everyone and emphasized that the objective of MAWO is to support the right of all oppressed people which includes the Palestinian peoples’ right to self-determination.

Nita Palmer, MAWO executive committee member and MC introduced a few short film clips and music videos on the history of Palestine and the colonial Zionist movement.

Richard Becker, organizer with the US antiwar group Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) spoke with a historical perspective on the heroic struggle and resistance of the Palestinian people against the occupation of their land by the Israeli government. For over 60 years the Palestinian people have demanded justice and the right to their land. Richard questioned why does Israel exist, why does US so heavily support Israel and what is the purpose of Israel for the US and other western imperialist countries for intervention and occupation in the Middle East.

After Richard, was lively discussion from the audience with many different questions and comments in support of the Palestinian resistance and their inalienable right to their land. This book launch was a great opportunity for peace-loving people to come together in support of the Palestinian people.
