On May 23rd, 1914, the Japanese shipping vessel Komagata Maru arrived in Vancouver’s harbour. Aboard were 376 migrants of Indian origin. Upon anchoring, the passengers were prevented from disembarking by local Canadian of- fi cials, whose decision reflects the racist immigration policies of the Canadian Government.
